Biomass power plant conlflict in Hungary

A company started to build a bioenergy power plant in order to make the city fossil free, but the local civil society distrust the company\'s plan for burning mainly straw & soft-stem agricultural by-products. The leading civil society NGO, the Civils for Mecsek (CMM)criticizes the plan for emphasizing too much on biomaterial transported more than 50 kilometers away and CMM is also worried about the negative impacts of the power plant on the agriculture of the region, as re-ploughing straw and agricultural residues in the soil is important to maintain the fertility of soil, as well as to prevent the drying of the soil in summer time.
