Biomass energy production in Kwale County

Proposed construction of Kenya\'s Commercial Biomass energy production. The companies involved are Tower Power which is owned by Industrial Energy Africa Limited \"? a joint venture between industrialist Manu Chandaria\'s Comcraft Group and Powergas International, a UK-based energy conglomerate. It will use Prosopis Juliflora tree, popularly known as ?Mathenge,? in energy production as the country moves towards adopting green and renewable energy solutions. The project is set to transform the tree from a noxious weed to a cash crop when about 2,000 households begin supplying the company with the tree stems. However, the major conflict area has been the impact this plant has to the environment, the domestic animals, and other negative impacts if planted in large scale farming. concerns are raised from the local communities and environmental organizations.
